Family Session Before the Mission | Hometown Memories with the Madsen Family
This session was such a special one for me—not just because it was a beautiful shoot, but because it was with my own family. We squeezed in a quick family session for my aunt and uncle, the Madsens, before my cousin Dash left on his LDS mission, and I’m so glad we made it happen.
The Madsens were visiting our hometown (which is also their hometown!) for a short window before Dash’s departure, and it ended up being the perfect opportunity to capture this sweet season of life. Even though the weather was cold and gloomy, they were total troopers—and honestly, the overcast skies gave everything a soft, beautiful glow that worked perfectly in the photos.
We started with some individual missionary portraits of Dash, which felt so meaningful knowing what an exciting step he's about to take. Then we moved into the full family session with his siblings—Colt, Sport, Breeze (the only girl and total sweetheart), and little Tag. These kids are full of personality, and it was so fun capturing the energy and love they all share.
Sessions like this are a reminder of why I love photography so much—freezing moments before big life changes, making time stand still just for a second. It was extra special to be able to catch up with family while doing something I love.
